There are some months when Funko misses the mark–just a little bit–with their specialty subscription boxes. Thankfully, this is not one of those months! Just in time for the hugely-hyped Smuggler’s Bounty Rogue One box to go up for order, the much-anticipated Funko Star Wars Smuggler’s Bounty Death Star Box has now arrived–and it just may be the best Star Wars box yet! Read on for my unboxing photos, review and full spoilers for the Funko Death Star Box…
In short, I had some trepidations about this month’s Powered by Funko Death Star box.
But I am happy to say that Funko restored my faith and then some with this month’s box! Let’s take a look…
I sort of thought that the Death Star itself might be the patch this month, but instead, it’s a Darth Vader patch! That’s A-OK with me, as the Dark Lord of the Sith is perhaps the most important character we haven’t had a patch for yet.
Beneath the flap, we find an advertisement card for the Rogue One box coming our way in November 2016! The “mystery” POPs for that box have already been revealed, and I’ll be posting a discussion of those gems later on today.
The shirt is grey and has a great soft feel to it, and the graphics on the shirt look terrific. I also think it’s super-fun that the Obi-Wan POP on the shirt is the exclusive one we received in the Cantina box earlier this year.
Underneath the shirt, we come to the final three items in the box, with the most random exclusive being…
My wife saw it and said she wants to use it, so in my eyes, the Death Star Luggage Tag is a clear success.
Even so, the famous Darth Vader reaching out his arm pose is an incredible choice for an exclusive release, and I think this Funko Darth Vader (Bespin) POP Vinyl will be among the most popular Smuggler’s Bounty exclusives yet.
Overall: Two brand new-sculpted POP Vinyls of the primary antagonists of A New Hope, the first Luggage Tag I’ve ever felt the need to actually use, a really fun and good-looking T-Shirt and a pin/patch combo of iconic characters. Funko outdid themselves with this Death Star Smuggler’s Bounty box, and anyone who didn’t get in on this mystery box really, really missed out. This sets the bar for all future Star Wars boxes!
