The votes are in, and although there’s none of the crazy drama surrounding this year’s Hasbro Star Wars Fan Poll that we got last year with Jaina Solo and Starkiller (thank God), a non-movie character has triumphed once again! The results are official: the Star Wars Vintage Figure Fan Poll winner is none other than Doctor Aphra!
But as it so happens, the poll has concluded, and despite another non-movie character emerging victorious, collectors have kept things quite civil!
Although the archaeologist Doctor Aphra was only introduced a couple years ago in the Darth Vader comic book series, she became popular enough to spin off into her own series and now has more ongoing comic book solo issues under her belt than any character not named “Darth Vader”.
Doctor Aphra is a fun and unique Star Wars character, and my only complaint about her getting a figure made is that we may have to wait a while for Hasbro to produce evil droids Triple-Zero and Bee-Tee to accompany her!
The runner-up in the poll was a new Vintage Collection Ahsoka Tano (Rebels) figure. We got an older Clone Wars Ahsoka Tano figure in the final wave of the previous Vintage Collection (and then a reissue in the Black Series this year), so it’s a testament to the character’s popularity than Ashoka placed so highly in this poll.
Unless Hasbro is totally blind to fandom (and they are not), a new Rebels Ahsoka (realistic-styled) action figure has to be high on their lists for the next year or two.
I think Fives got screwed a bit by the screencap chosen for him in the poll (which depicted him wearing a boring red tunic and not his ARC Trooper armor), but I doubt he would have beaten Aphra and Ahsoka regardless.
Sim Aloo is a big loss, however, as he’s one of the very few remaining characters needed to recreate the entire vintage Kenner Star Wars line in modern Hasbro form (and man, do I ever want a blue GONK Power Droid!). Yakface is also sorely in need of an update, so it’s a pity he didn’t want the fan poll.
I’ll post updates here and to the Star Wars Toy News Facebook Page and Twitter Feed once Hasbro reveals a prototype and release date for the Vintage Doctor Aphra figure (though that likely won’t be until sometime in early 2018).
What do you think of Doctor Aphra winning the 2017 Hasbro Star Wars Fan Poll? Did Doctor Aphra earn your vote during the polling, and are you planning on picking up the Vintage Collection Doctor Aphra figure in 2018?
